Brute-Force Cracking -- Say Goodbye To Your Rapidshare Account

Out with the old in with the new. Brute-Force (BF) Cracking has become something of a novelty among the underground communities these days. Old school programs such as Form@, Sentry, and AccessDiver are being replaced by mass produced applications specialized for each individual website. So now all you have to do is load up a username & password list and a few proxies (in some programs this is even optional!).

Most people refer to these programs as "kiddie scripts" but back in the day the programs that we used were also called "kiddie scripts" so the line to draw varies from person-to-person. Anyway...
Besides the obvious security flaw in some of these programs, these applications are easy to obtain and they [usually] work. It literally takes less than 2 days to crack close to 100 premium rapidshare accounts with these handy-dandy tools.

So i say to you, change your passwords and avoid registering on popular warez forum boards with your same DDL usernames. Those kiddie scripts will get ya!

While chatting with some friends on my favorite IRC channel (#hikiculture @ irc.irchighway.net ), a friend by the name of trigun31 posted a link to a very interesting article on F-Secure. It's talking about an extortion trojan that presents itself as an Anti-Piracy Foundation that charges you for "illegal torrents found on your system" and justifying its statement by calling it a "pre-trial settlement".

The new version of Windows Live Messenger, formerly MSN chat program, adding integration with social networks Facebook and LinkedIn to. In addition, users using the software in HD-quality video chatting.

Besides the new desktop applications are new applications for smartphones, a better site for mobile phones, SMS support, and a new version of Hotmail, the software maker said. Earlier this week turned up images of the iPhone application. however, there will be a better web version of Windows Live Messenger, so many functionalities of the desktop applications via the browser to use.

If you've been living under a rock these past few months Bungie, the guys that made Halo, have been trying to get away from Microsoft have gotten away from Microsoft. After signing a contract to work with Activision for ten years.

Canonical's Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop Edition features three years of support, an online music store, a new look and social network integration

LONDON, April 27, 2010: Canonical announced today the upcoming release of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop Edition, the latest version of the popular Linux desktop distribution, which includes three years of support through free security and maintenance updates. It will be available for free download on Thursday 29 April and will be pre-installed on a range of machines from a number of manufacturers in Summer 2010.
The desktop edition of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS will feature extensive design work, faster boot speed, social network integration, online services and the Ubuntu One Music Store.

Slimmed Down Xbox 360

In case you didn't get the memo, rumors have been going around about Microsoft's new slimmed down version of the Xbox 360. From the trend of gaming systems I wouldn't doubt these speculations for a second.

A quote from 1UP saying: 

It's not clear what sort of upgrades we might see, but some have suggested it will be a slight upgrade of the current Xbox 360 technology. Current Xbox 360 games would be playable on it, but future games would be able to take advantage of the added muscle. Games played on the more advanced Xbox would look or perform better, but publishers will still be able to support owners of both systems.

 So is it worth buying when it comes out?

XSS -- What the Fuck?

So maybe you've heard of XSS and maybe you haven't. For those that haven't here's a snippet from Wikipedia that may catch you up to speed:

Cross-site scripting (XSS) is a type of computer security vulnerability typically found in web applications that enables malicious attackers to inject client-side script into web pages viewed by other users. An exploited cross-site scripting vulnerability can be used by attackers to bypass access controls such as the same origin policy. Cross-site scripting carried out on websites were roughly 80% of all security vulnerabilities documented by Symantec as of 2007.

So what does a XSS vulnerability look like? An example of a URL injection vulnerability would appear like:
